Chapter Fifteen
DAVID TOSSED Emileâs gift onto the dresser. The longer he thought about Emileâs situation, the angrier he got. Emileâs sexual appetite had nothing at all to do with women. Heâd been alone for so long. Whyâ¦.
He threw his dress clothes onto the bed and changed into something more appropriate for the club. The last thing he wanted was to stew for the rest of the night. Vanity set him in front of the mirror. He re-pomaded his hair and brushed his teeth before he suited up and headed out the door.
By the time he reached the four hundred block of Bourbon, he had a lightness of step. He pushed Emileâs folly to the side and summoned determination for an evening heâd always remember.
His progress up the creaky wooden stairs slowed as those in front got closer to the door. Within minutes, he entered the smoke-filled bar. Raucous baritone laughter and thunderous jazz blasted all negativity from his head.
A tall blond breathed heavily into his ear. âLetâs get a drink and find a seat.â
David scanned other options amid the three-deep mass of sweaty men at the bar. âMaybe later. I just got here.â
âIâll be here.â
Before David reached the bar, Blondie had moved on to someone else.
Men huddled in groups of four or six and swayed to the ear-splitting music. They freely hugged and snuggled on the dance floor. On a banquette that lined three walls and surrounded a billiards table, men sat on each otherâs laps and kissed openly.
With a drink in hand, David entered the breach. The smell of men and booze intoxicated him, much as they had at the Gem.
A handsome, mustachioed man clapped him on the back. âHey, David, good to see you.â
âHey, Mal. How are you? Havenât seen you in an age.â
Mal waggled his brows as he swayed to the upbeat tempo. âWhat brings you out tonight? Didnât you graduate today?â
âSure did. Here to celebrate.â
âYou lookinâ for something special?â
David leaned forward to be heard above the music. âJust lookinâ.â
Mal eyed David up and down. âYou brushed me off at school, but whatya say?â
âThanks, but I just got here. Iâm off to find a quiet corner, and Iâll see what happens later.â He stuck out his hand. âGood seeing you again.â
Mal laughed. âGood luck. This place is jumpinâ tonight.â
âIsnât it always?â
Mal walked away, his hips keeping time to âCrazy Blues.â
David headed toward the back of the room. For the voyeur in him, the dimly lit cubicles always provided a show. He pulled back a deep red curtain. A man with his pants around his ankles had another bent over a chair. He fucked him as though they were completely alone.
âHey, good lookinâ.â
David licked his lips.
âCome on in. We always have room for someone like you.â
David lifted his glass and closed the curtain. At the next booth, he parted the curtain slightly. One man, on his knees, sucked off another, their moans masked by the throbbing beat from a professor on an old upright. David knees weakened as he remembered Spenceâs expert mouth on him.
